Thank you

Last week I heard a woman speak on the proper etiquette of writing a thank you note. Technology as it is, this is becoming something that is sometimes overlooked in today busy society and just because it may be faster to send a thank you buy email doesn't mean we should. A handwritten note tells someone that they are special, that you have taken the time to acknowledge them whether it is a thank you, sympathy or just thinking of you.
Our speaker gave us some phrases to use to help you get started with your thank you here are a few examples

PHRASES THAT SAY THANK YOU;

Thank you so much

Am/are so grateful
Particularly grateful for
Thank you for remembering

Thanks a million
Special thanks to
Can't thank you enough

Many thanks
Deeply, truly, really appreciate
Both send our thanks

I have read on several message boards that people love to make a card but does not know what to put on the inside. What is the use of a beautiful that you spend all the time making if you don't share it with someone. Think about this....when you receive a beautiful handmade card do you look at the outside and think wow that person made this wonderful card for me......no you always open the inside to see what the person has written. I have received many beautiful cards over the years, but the ones I save are those that someone has written somethings that has touched me on the inside of the card.
Remember the golden rule. Treat others the way you would want to be treated.
When someone takes the time to think, shop, purchase, wrap, and send a gift isn't it worth the 2 minutes it take to write and send a word of thanks.

Hey, thanks for stopping by I really appreciate all of you who stop buy and read my blog.
I am still working on the tribute for my mom I hope to start decorating the board for it next week I can't wait to show you.

Writing a Tribute

Sorry for the lack of post this week, but I have been busy with a Mother's Day project that I am doing for my own mom. I am writing a tribute to her and decorating a board in her honor that will be displayed at my church for Mother's Day. right now I am doing the hardest part writing the tribute, I am almost done with this process and will get to do the fun part decorating the display board. I hope to done by next week and I will post it as soon as I am done. Most of all I hope I can get my parents to come for a visit so my mom can see the board displayed at church, I want it to be a surprise.

Snowmen

I know, I know everyone is tired of winter and ready for the warm sun to shine down on them. The past few days I have been showcasing some of my scrapbook layouts from my family album and this one I just loved (even though it is about snow) I used some yarn that I had to make the snowmen title. All I did was use my Koo Glue and wrote snowmen and laid the yarn over it and let it dry.

Mother and Child

Thanks to all who left a comment on the mother and child cut file. If and when you use the design please send me a pictures so I can post it here on my blog.

Ponderings of a Rock Star

For some reason every time my son gets his picture taken he makes this pose. . I began to think about what he may be pondering on as he entered his senior year of high school. These are some of the thing I thought might be on his mind. His music, career, school, God, food, and of course true love.
This paper is from the Rock Star collection. I am sure I bought it on clearance at Michaels. I spruced it up and used my favorite pens the Sakura Glaze. The pens give an embossed look with out the mess of embossing powder or the use of a heat gun. They come in 10 colors from black to white with ever color in between. The think bubbles are made out of vellum and it was great to use so many of my sticker, because with using my cricut so much I just don't use as many stickers anymore.

We

I love to go to garage sale, although I admit that I do not go to them as often as I used to, for one thing my house if full and here in the STL garage sales occur mostly on Wednesday and since that is one of the days I work I miss out on a lot of good stuff. When ever I am home visiting my parents I always go out with the Garage Sale Queen my mother. Why am I tell you this well at one garage sales I came across about 10 scrap booking kits for a $1 each from the Scrapping Bee, which was a local scrapbook store. This page is a result of my garaging. My oldest son took this great pic of my husband and I in our back yard. I love the color of the paper and the simplity of it. I used rub ons for the title.

Ressurection Rolls

He is Risen....He Has Risen Indeed!
Here is a wonderful recipe to help you explain the death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ to your kids or grandkids. It is a simple recipe using crescent rolls and marshmallows. If you don't want to have to copy from my blog just leave me your email and I can send it to you. Have a blessed Easter and celebrate the Risen Lord.
Pre Heat Oven to 350 degrees
Ingredients:
Crescent rolls
Melted butter
Large marshmallows
CinnamonSugar
Give each child a triangle of crescent rolls. The crescent roll represents the cloth that Jesus was wrapped in.
Read Matthew 27:57-611.
Give each child a marshmallow. This represents Jesus.
2. Have him/her dip the marshmallow in melted butter. This represents the oils of embalming.
3. Now dip the buttered marshmallow in the cinnamon and sugar which represents the spices used to anoint the body.
4. Then wrap up the coated marshmallow tightly in the crescent roll (not like a typical crescent roll up, but bring the sides up and seal the marshmallow inside.) This represents the wrapping of Jesus' body after death.
5. Place in a 350 degree oven for 10-12 minutes. (The oven represents the tomb - pretend like it was three days!)
6. Let the rolls cool slightly. The children can open their rolls (cloth) and discover that Jesus is no longer there, HE IS RISEN!!!! (The marshmallow melts and the crescent roll is puffed up, but empty.)
Now read Matthew 28:5-8
Explain: At the tomb, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary saw an angel, who told them not to be afraid. No one had taken Jesus' body, but He Had risen from the dead! The angel told the women to go and tell the disciples what they had seen, that Jesus had risen from the dead. They were so excited, they ran all the way home to tell the disciples the good news! He is risen from the dead! Alleluia!
After that Jesus appeared in person to Peter, then to the 12 disciples and after that, to more than 500 people. Jesus' appearance to eyewitnesses, those who saw Him with their own eyes, would give support and prove that Jesus rose from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:3-6).By rising from the dead, Jesus proved once and for all that He was the Messiah, the Savior of the World, the Chosen One, and the Lamb of God.
By dying on the cross and rising from the dead, Jesus did what no other had ever done before. As both God and man, He overcame sin, death, and hell. And now because of what Jesus has done, these things no longer have any power over those who believe in Jesus and allow His Spirit to lead and direct them. Rather than being slaves to sin and death, Christians ( those who love and believe in Jesus) are free to obey God and do good ( Romans 6:17-18). The Bible says in John 8:36, "If therefore the Son shall make you free, you shall be free indeed.
"However, we will only obey God if we listen to the Holy Spirit our helper. He enables believers in Jesus to do the right thing. It is important that we read the Bible (God's Word) because one of the ways the Holy Spirit helps us obey God is by reminding us of what He says to us in His Word. God's Spirit will never go against his Word. In fact, when we read God's Word, we are listening to the Holy Spirit. Of course, you won't always do the right thing; the Bible says this ) 1 John 1:5-10). But that is why we need to continue to confess our sins knowing that God forgives us, based on what Jesus did on the cross. This is also a reason we need to spend time with other believers in Christ so they can encourage us in our faith.
May you have a blessed and meaningful Easter!

Dolly Parton Hearts

I wanted to share with you a secret as to how to make a perfectly sharped heart. I have taken quite a few painting classes and my teacher showed me how to make what she called a "Dolly Parton Heart" It is easy once you see the process.

Okay, so you can see by my drawing that to make the perfect heart you need three shapes, 2 circles and a "V". I made this with paint and a paint brush but, you can make this heart just as easily with glue, a pen, or marker, once you know the basics you can always make the perfect heart.

I am using the end of a foam brush and I have dipped the end into the cap of the paint cap. Depending on what size heart you want you will need to choose the right size of paint brush, but hey you don't need a paint brush you can use the eraser end of a pencil. Basically what you need is something flat and round.

Press your paint onto your surface you will end up with a circle. If you are using something fluid such as paint or glue you will need to repeat the dip again so that you will have the same size for the second circle. Now can you see why my teacher called it a "Dolly Parton Heart"?

With my paint brush I do not need any more paint all I am doing is dragging the paint to make a "V" and connecting to two hearts. There you go the perfect heart. This is just as easy with glue or marker or pens just use the same principles.

Mother & Child card

There was a request for a mother and child cut file. The first thing I thought of was the mother and child necklaces that were so popular a few years back. Here is the card I made with the cut file.
I used a little Martha Stewart glitter and made a "Dolly Parton Heart"
I do not have the talent to come up with wonderful sentiments for cards but Linda Latourelle has a great book call "The Ultimate guide to the perfect Card" she covers all subjects for cards from the beginning to the end. Sometimes making the card is the easy part, but thanks to Linda she comes up with the perfect prose for the inside.

Welcome to the World Baby Girl!

What can you make with 3 circles 2 stars and a triangle?

A baby chick! I needed a new baby card for a mom that I mentor and I seen this chick on the creative memories web site. It was easy, easy, easy, they used white for the egg but since my new mom had a little girl I wanted to make it a little more personal. How did I do this? Well......

1. Fold the orange triangle in half a glue to the upper part of the cirle and use a black marker to make the eyes above the beak.

2. Cut the floral circle with random cuts (I drew the shape I wanted on the back)

3. Glue egg to chick, then glue the stars to the back of egg/chick making sure 3 of the points of the stars are showing.

4. Cut the smallest circle in half and glue to back of egg/chick

5. Enjoy your new creation

Here is the card I made.

I want to thank Fannie Flagg for the title of the card. She wrote a book some years back with that title. If you are a reader this book is a must she is a wonderful writer and this book is no exception."Welcome to the World Baby Girl" is on my top 10 list of most loved books. You may remember a another book she wrote "Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe"

One question you may ask me is........

"Carrie, what glue did you use to put down the wording on the front of the card." (The wording is less than 1" tall)

Well, I use a Quickie Glue Pen by Saukra. I love this pen because you can put a pinpoint dot of glue on your projects. I always have one on hand.

I can share the cut file with you if you want but really it is just circles, stars and triangles but as always just ask and I will be happy to provide it for you .

The 30 day count down to my oldest son's high school graduation has begun so I am going to be busy preparing for that celebration. Now I know why you celebrate the high school graduations so much it isn't for the graduate it is for the PARENTS we need to celebration that we lived through it all.
